So, 1/3 of your life is spent sleeping…. Sleep is important; that we know…. WHY it is important is one of the hot topics in current research. Although there is a lot of debate about the real function of sleep, we are learning WHAT happens when we sleep.

We know, for example, that our hormones balance during sleep and that if we aren’t getting enough sleep that they get out of whack and strange things begin happening.

  • Weight Gain
  • Depression
  • Confusion
  • Loss of memory
  • Poor Decision Making (ever wonder why you get a sweet-tooth when you are up late?)
  • A Decrease in Cognitive Ability
  • On, and on, and on……

Sleep is a CRITICAL function… now let me bring this back to our universe of chiropractic patients…..

If you AREN”T actually getting quality sleep and allowing your body to heal/balance/repair itself, then all of the money you are spending on treatments is just going out the window! So your adjustments fail to hold or be as effective as they could be…….. unless you have the right mattress to help speed healing and recovery.

We spend BILLIONS in this country on prescriptions for pain relief, plus the over-the-counter solutions for the minor stuff. I know you are like me and want to avoid that roller-coaster, which is why you are seeing a chiropractor in the first place. But let me share something with you right now that seems obvious, but obviously isn’t according to the CDC and their sleep studies:

You can spend thousands in medical expenses on top of suffering too much lost time, not enjoying the things that matter most to you in life. But a little extra focus on your sleep can make a giant difference in your pursuit of health and wellness.

If you are in pain, don’t stop working toward fixing the problem, but do yourself a favor and add in a little extra time for rest (even just a nap). Your brain will thank you and so will your body.
